This painting of Amsterdam-born artist Bernardien Sternheim (1948) was made by Kik Zeiler – not surprising, considering his strong bond with the city’s artists.
Zeiler became interested in painting during his time as a jack-of-all-trades at Mokum Gallery in Amsterdam. The influence of the gallery's artists working in a realistic style can be plainly seen in the rich detailing and accurate rendition of textiles in Zeiler's portraits. The see-through quality of Sternheim’s dress is nothing short of amazing.
