Daguerre's Soup

1976 | Edition of 12 colour photographs mounted on paper | 54 x 52 x 3 cm

With this collage of photos, Marcel Broodthaers pokes fun at one of the fathers of photography.

Louis Daguerre invented the first commercial photographic process around 1840. The ingredients of this soup by Broodthaers are photographs themselves. Presented with a label that suggests this is a museum piece, some of the ingredients, such as fish made out of tissue paper, were never meant to be eaten in the first place.
