Zimbabwean Moffat Takadiwa’s art is a powerful call to action where he urges people to free themselves from the colonial legacy and redefine their future on their own terms. His work depicts the lasting consequences of colonialism and modern inequalities, all the while emphasising the power of African traditions.
With a keen eye for detail and symbolism, Takadiwa uses materials like plastic spoons, keyboard keys, metal zips and banknotes to explore the common bond of human experiences and shared legacies of oppression and survival. Takadiwa repurposes these found materials into works of art. His art challenges us to think about power, identity and success in today’s world – to herald a new dawn of empowerment and cultural reconquest.
