Ruud van Empel’s fantastical, photographic portraits of children in opulent landscapes exude an air of innocence. We see reflected here the rose-coloured appreciation of nature. The surreal quality of his compositions is enhanced by his digital collage technique. Van Empel compiles them from a large stock of photographs. The undulating fields of plants and flowers give the photograph an underlying sense of stitched-together strangeness.
