In this work by the Peter Duka, the sunny white-sand beach has good reason to be deserted.
In Duka’s bright, panoramic landscapes, there’s a silent presence of something that spells disaster. A similar approach was taken by Caspar David Friedrich, a fellow German from the 19th century who specialised in haunting, symbolic scenes of nature and Gothic ruins.
