Ouroboros Arborum

2007 | bronze | 300 × 310 × 190 cm

Sjoerd Buisman is fascinated by the laws – not only of nature – that dictate how trees and plants grow and can become deformed.

This bronze work of his depicts branches that have grown – or been forced to grow – in squares. The title refers to an ancient Egyptian symbol depicting a serpent swallowing its own tail.
