Phantom Limb Pain
2008 | brass | 200 × 265 × 95 cm
How does it feel to lose someone or something very dear to you?
Phantom pain – also the title of this work – is the sensation people feel in a missing arm or leg, after a serious accident for example. This work by Guus Hellegers commemorates the loss of 50 bank employees in Amsterdam during the Second War World. Some were literally torn away from their desk at work.
