Nico Molenkamp (1920-1998)
Pierrot
1978 | oil paint on canvas | 120 × 150 cm
Nico Molenkamp believed that to make a painting exciting, you always need a subject. That’s the easy part.
Molenkamp could take forever working on one painting: creating a structure, changing it, changing it back, again and again. He’d work with a brush and a palette knife back and forth until an image finally appeared. The result was sometimes a bit of a surprise – even to him.
