This work is part of Andy Warhol’s Reigning Queens series of four queens who ruled at that time.
Besides Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, the series comprises Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and Queen Ntombi Twala of Swaziland. The prints were based on official photographs and some elements were taken from drawings of jewellery.
