Philip Akkerman (1957)
Self-Portrait 2003, No. 51
2003 | oil paint on board | 40 × 34 cm
While the subject of his work may seem rather limiting, Philip Akkerman finds it liberating.
Akkerman’s thousands of paintings and drawings are all self-portraits. By making variations within his self-imposed limits, Akkerman is able to ‘complete the picture’ for himself. For a while, he has restricted himself even further, by working in shades of grey only.
