Spring is the first part of a four-piece set entitled The Four Seasons, which took Matthijs Röling two years to complete.
Many of the objects Röling places in these still lifes create a harmonious microcosm with references to different forms of art such as dance, music, painting and literature. The paintings are composed in ‘cupboards’, a form that the artist started out with in the 1960s.
