Dick Pieters (1941)
Swimmers
1993 | oil paint on board | 110 × 140 cm
Dick Pieters loves painting small moments of joy, especially of him and his wife enjoying themselves in or on the water.
As usual, the leading roles in Swimmers are reserved for the artist and his wife. The motion of the water is portrayed simply with a few wavy, coloured lines. Three-fourths of the composition is taken up by the side of a bright red ship with blue portholes. Perhaps this is a reference to the artist's career before he took up painting: he was a steward on an ocean liner.
