Set in museums, Karen Knorr’s Fables series is populated by animal characters that seem to be lost – or up to no good.

In this photograph, the cunning fox, the foolish pigeon, the parsimonious squirrel and the pesky rat encroach upon Musée Carnavalet in Paris. No longer playing their storybook roles, they roam freely, perhaps shocked by their friends and family on the walls.
