The cat in this drawing is portrayed drinking from a tap: just another day on the job at the State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
Cats have been living in the museum, originally a palace, since they were put there in the 18th century to keep the mouse population under control. The cats became part of the royal household and were therefore well looked after. Erik van Lieshout spent weeks living among the cats and documented their life in a series of drawings.
