Erik van Lieshout (1968-1968)
Untitled
2014 | mixed media on paper | 30 × 50 cm
Erik van Lieshout likes to portray serious topics, such as immigration, integration and social classes, with a sense of humour.
For this project, Van Lieshout went to live among about 90 cats in the cellars of the State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Placed there to control the mice, the cats are as well-known to some as the art collection itself. This work portrays three of the cats that are part of this incredibly special feline population.
