Pere Llobera (1970-1970)
Untitled
2016 | oil paint on canvas with collage elements | 164 × 131 cm
Llobera’s paintings are hard to understand in just one glance. While they definitely have a sense of realism about them, they are distorted, changed, slightly off.
This portrait is of Spain’s King Juan Carlos I next to a porcelain figure of his wife, who has literally lost her head. It is a commentary on a political situation and a history of a country. At the same time, the strange image recalls the absurdity of reality in dreams.
