Pere Llobera (1970)
Untitled (Ensor)
2020 | oil on canvas | 200 × 160 cm
When you look at this work of art, you probably won’t be surprised that it’s about music. Pere Llobera is mainly interested in the people behind the making of music. He’s especially fascinated by their struggle to develop an artistic style. This is something he himself knows all too well. Llobera has noticed how truly difficult it has become to stand out from the crowd – especially in our current times when virtually all knowledge and skills are available.
Llobera refers with the title to one of his idols who was also engaged in a similar battle to find his own personal artistic style. Untitled (Ensor) refers to James Ensor, a well-known visual artist who lived at the beginning of Modernism. James Ensor was deeply occupied with finding his own artistic style and was very experimental.
