It was in 2001 that Claudy Jongstra established her studio in the Dutch province of Friesland and began a large-scale ecological experiment. With her flock of rare Drenthe heath sheep and historic botanical garden of dyes, she has created a completely sustainable chain that culminates in her works of art.

Jongstra’s artistic practice has a great impact on the region where she lives. She works with local farms, schools, universities and social initiatives. Thanks to her deep respect for the interwoven narratives of people, land and knowledge, she’s transforming the local landscape into a more diverse, inclusive and environmentally just model.
