1990 | bronze | 73 × 30 × 20 cm

Eja Siepman van den Berg’s interest in producing torsos stems from her desire to capture the essence of the human figure, which in a torso – ironically – is incomplete.

Siepman van den Berg’s quest to express this ‘core’ ultimately led to the omission of limbs in her sculptures. With the smooth torso, she can concentrate entirely on the human form and play with proportions and space. Stylised and finished to perfection, posture and pose completely relaxed, her seemingly detached, but sensual, sculptures reflect the purity of young, self-confident life.
