Arturo Kameya (1984)
Mariposa nocturna
2025 | acrylic and clay powder on wood | 80 × 99 cm
This work is about identity; about how, for instance, clothing can serve as a symbol of status. The sports jacket references urban culture. It is worn in big cities like Lima, Peru, to “fit in”. In the background, we see Peru’s countryside depicted. We see mountains that are characteristic of the Andes region. For Arturo, the tension of the piece lies in this contradiction. In the countryside they dream of the city and the other way around.
