Sarah van Sonsbeeck’s Shelter series places the emergency blanket in an entirely new context. All that glitters is not gold.
This work was created amid the European migrant crisis and was inspired by images of refugees wrapped in this reflective insulative material to keep themselves warm and shelter from the gaze of others. The fifth in the series, 19.3% of the surface area of this work is covered in a thin layer of real gold.
