Vera Gulikers (1991)
The Stretcher (Fudge and Smudge)
2022 | flock on acrylic resin | 170 × 205 × 60 cm
While painting Vera Gulikers strongly felt the need to make her doodle-like lines in sculpture form.
In The Stretcher (Fudge and Smudge), Gulikers uses the idea of stretching the body as an exercise to transorm herself in the form of a painterly stroke. For other sculptures she repeatedly uses classical poses of female models from art history, but in a new, stretched way. In this manner she want to free forms from the traditions and the mostly male makers.
