In 1967, Woody van Amen's work started to show its first signs of change as he became interested in the visual aspects of motion, light and reflection.
Black Diamond is a good example of this. Here, Van Amen uses various materials, such as a flashing light and rotating mechanism, to create a unique whole. This wall sculpture builds on the art of assemblage, where everyday objects are taken and refashioned into futuristic installations. Van Amen had been exposed to assemblage in the US in the early 1960s.
