In the 1970s, when formalist, conceptual and abstract art dominated the scene, Daniëls had the courage to let figurative art back into his paintings and sculptures. Figurative art is artwork that represents figures and objects from the real world. The way they are represented, however, can be as surreal, abstract or expressive as the artist wants. When ING started collecting art, the figurative tradition was chosen as its focus.
