This video artwork by Jacco Olivier is called Current, as in, the current against which this sea turtle swims, towards the light. But also, in the sense of its other meaning: ‘presently’ or ‘now’. The sea turtle is a victim of climate change. The temperatures of the sand in which it lays its eggs determines the sex of the turtles. Due to rising temperatures mostly female turtles are being born, causing the species to be endangered. A current issue. Can we turn the tide? And will the sea turtle ever reach the light?
