J`MW TP

2023 | acrylic and oil on mirror | 74 cm

These works entitled J`MW TP depict a familiar and realistic scene of a steamed-up mirror, where the artist has drawn in the condensation. The title refers to what can be seen on the work: J’M stands for the name of the artist Jochen Mühlenbrink, but at the same time it also stands for j’aime (‘I love’). The W stands for ‘water’, the T for ‘tape’ and the P for ‘painting’. But what does this mean, and what exactly does the artist love? Jochen Mühlenbrink uses art to change our perception of reality – by constantly putting us on the wrong track.

Two of these works contain the words tutto passa, meaning ‘everything passes’. But these words have been crossed out, which negates the statement.
