Han Jansen (1931-1994)
Landscape
1972 | oil paint on canvas | 148 × 148 cm
The farm and haystacks in this painting by Han Jansen almost look like they’ve been cut out with scissors and pasted on the canvas. The perspective is off.
Jansen has a very rational view of nature. He depicts it as cultivated by humankind. Although he does not avoid more romantic subjects, such as a sunset, his work is marked by a certain tension between nature and civilisation, between emotion and rational thinking – which he always lightens up with a touch of humour.
