FreelingWaters
Monographies
2024 | pigments and PU binder on Linden wood | 100 × 70 × 4 cm
FreelingWaters is a duo formed by artists Gijs Frieling and Job Woutes. Together, they work on the cutting edge of painting, graphic design and furniture design.
They use pigments and casein glue for their work, an old technique based on milk protein that creates intense, long-lasting colours. The quick drying time makes accuracy essential: mistakes cannot be fixed or erased.
These works of art, entitled Monographies, were preliminary studies for the mural at the ING House in Zwolle. The preliminary studies – which themselves have become independent works of art – portray bookcases with books depicting the names of artists from the ING Collection. The different wood hues show how the duo experimented to find the right colours for the final mural.
