Michael Raedecker (1963)
No Title (From the series 'Do you love me?', no. II)
1996 | acrylic paint and thread on canvas | 170 × 130 cm
Michael Raedecker’s choice of materials shows that what’s a constraint for one person is a new opportunity for another.
Trained in fashion design, Raedecker was faced with a problem when he switched to flat painting. In this work, his solution was to use thread for hair to create three-dimensionality. It provokes us to look from different distances to discover new details and make new associations as we mentally fill in the face.
