Lily van der Stokker is known internationally for her fanciful drawings and murals in bright colours. Her subjects and colours refer to Pop Art. Van der Stokker combines familiar objects, such as flowers, curls or clouds, with equally familiar words or sentences. And so she refers to beauty or kindness, but also to everyday activities such as cleaning or a visit to the doctor.

Her use of colour and her aesthetic are unique. By using subjects and colours that are often seen as out of place in the visual arts, or as ‘girlish’, she raises questions about the history of art and her own role in it. Her work is food for thought about the role and position of women in both the world of art and society.
