Wim Schuhmacher travelled extensively in southern Europe for his paintings. Instead of seaside villages bathing in the Mediterranean sun, however, he was drawn to hills and mountains.
This village in the Pyreneans gave Schuhmacher the perfect opportunity to play with the many shades of grey for which he was famous. He portrays the light as coming from everywhere and nowhere at the same time.
