Pupillenmodell Nr. 2

2011 | archival pigment print | 58,5 × 39 cm

The work of Lena Amuat and Zoë Meyer revolves around objects that are used to pass on knowledge, such as equipment and supplies from a biology class or three-dimensional shapes. The artist duo rummage through archives and natural history museums all across Europe to find these objects.

Lena and Zoë place the objects that they find in a new setting, where nothing points to the item’s context. Nor do the titles of their works of art allude in any way to what the photographed object is used for or where it comes from. The knowledge that Lena Amuat and Zoë Meyer seek to pass on in this way is how to look at the world objectively. The artist duo photograph the traditional way: analogue. They print the photos themselves and also make and paint their own frames.
