The purple and lilac tints used by Peter Hartwig and the lack of people give this work a sense of mystery.
Here we see a large round, stone table in a snowy wood. It is not hard to imagine mythical knights sitting down at this table. The shadows created by the bare branches and sturdy trunks in the foreground make it seem like the trees keep on growing far beyond the painting.
