Jakup Ferri (1981)
Untitled
2021 | handwoven wool rug | 200 × 266 cm
While studying art history in Pristina, Jakup Ferri discovered that his native Kosovo was almost completely missing from the Western world of art. Since then, he sees it as his task to make neglected art and artists more visible. Folk art and outsider art, made by self-taught artists who are not concerned with the conventions of art, are two examples.
Ferri is especially interested in handicrafts, such as rugs. He sees great value in this art form because it is often intuitive and unpolished. Jakup got his inspiration for this work from the classic computer game Pac-Man.
