Antonis Pittas (1973)
Untitled (the money won't be given - it isn't there to be given)
2015 | pencil/graphite on marble | 110 × 8 cm
Deceptively simple at first glance, the work of Antonis Pittas is a carefully crafted commentary on society and politics.
This sculpture confronts us with the words spoken by Greek politician Nikos Voutsis in reference to the financial aid Greece needed at the time. Using pencil, Pittas has written "the money won't be given - it isn't there to be given" on two marble rings, symbolising the burning car tyres often seen during the protests in the streets.
