Ad Dekkers (1938-1974)
Variation on a Circle
1967 | polyester wall sculpture | 120 × 120 cm
While it might seem natural to use calculations to create a sculpture like this, Ad Dekkers did it by hand. He wanted to feel the space.
After the expressive art of the 1950s in the Netherlands, Ad Dekkers was one of many artists to rethink form, light and materials. He used geometric forms to emphasise one single aspect, such as a raised line. He saw the varying shadows on the surface of this sculpture as part of the work.
