VIBRE

2024 | charcoal, pastel, neon, plexiglass on wood | 75 × 60 cm

Vibre is a charcoal drawing combined with neon lighting and Plexiglas. Integrating organic and artificial elements, it reflects on human nature versus our constructed environment.
The clash between a hand-drawn landscape and artificial neon light represents the many contrasts that live within us. The neon is trapped inside glass, which is artificial and rigid: it breaks if you try to bend it. This is contrasted by the wiggling neon tubes. Plexiglas adds a water motif to the landscape. It serves the viewer as a mirror, suggesting that there's more beneath the surface. The big question is how do we remain human in the midst of the technology that we ourselves have created.
