Helen Verhoeven’s work contains a broad spectrum of size and materials. From small to monumental and from simplistic to chaotic. Still, she has a very distinctive style. An unsaturated, greyish palette, simplistic shapes and undetailed faces are commonplace in her paintings.

In this intimate composition, a ghostlike figure holds an even so spectral cat. By only partially depicting the face – which she does often – Verhoeven creates a feeling of both presence and absence. It’s an intimate, peaceful moment, which simultaneously gives you an intangible disconcerting feeling.
