Fioen Blaisse (1932-2012)
Woman and butterfly
1993 | bronze | 250 × 100 × 50 cm
Like many of Fioen Blaisse’s bronze statues of dancers, this female figure is depicted in a moment of utmost concentration, right before taking her next step.
Blaisse speaks of her work as a journey: "You don’t stand in front of a statue. You stand before a world where you could easily stay for half a year. You have an idea, a certain feeling, a sense of excitement. When I think about my design, I feel alienated in my mind. It’s an incredibly long process."
