Ferdinand Erfmann
Woman at the Window
1941 | olieverf op doek | 82 × 49 cm
Ferdinand Erfmann found realistic art too noisy. So in his own paintings, he decided to shut out all sound.
In this work, we see a woman at her bedroom window – which remains closed. She holds a hairbrush in one hand and looks through the curtains with the other. Her exaggerated figure stands motionless, while the matt paint on the wall dampens any sound in the room itself.
