With his Dutch landscapes, Han Singels follows in the illustrious footsteps of the likes of Paulus Potter and Aelbert Cuyp. But using a camera does not necessarily make life any easier.

Light, sky, water, trees, grasslands and cows of all sorts and colours were the elements such painters used to create their landscapes on canvas – usually in their studio – from their imagination. For Singels, it takes scores of botched attempts to get that one perfect photo.
