Absolute: Can We Really Talk About It?

2023 | acrylic on canvas | 180 × 153 cm

The art of Sanogo is an analysis of the ethnic culture of his homeland. He does this in an almost abstract way. He paints on unstretched, repurposed cloth found at his local market. With it, he pays homage to his Malian roots. In his work, Sanogo delves into the nuanced matters of global politics, journalism, and the justice system.

He often paints anonymous figures who can be anyone, of any race. Displayed on simplistic, pastel-coloured fields. Nothing in Sanogo’s work is explicit. He leaves the door open to the most varied interpretations. Only the title gives a glimpse into what he could have wanted to convey with this painting.
