Gold drippings # 2

2019 | gold sheen on ordinary float glass | 63 × 40 cm

Sarah van Sonsbeeck finds it interesting to create work that can be interpreted in widely different ways. She also has a knack for playing with words.

The dripping gold liquid in Gold drippings #1 and Gold drippings #2 is a mixture of gold leaf and the imagery of dog pee, as she saw it on one of her sculptures in public space. In 2016, Van Sonsbeeck exhibited her work in the gold vault of the Dutch central bank. Some people saw it as a symbol of banking instability. Others saw nothing more than a stain or the value that the material represents.
