Tjebbe Beekman presents a fractured world of texture and colour, but not without giving us some tools to find our way.
One of those is the title of the work itself. The original Las Meninas is Spanish painter Diego Velázquez’s 1656 masterpiece. Just like Velázquez, Beekman uses recognisable images, such as a flower, to guide our eyes to discover the figure of a woman, and much more.
