Horst P. Horst (1906-1999)
Gertrude Stein
1946 | Photographie en noir et blanc | 52 x 41 x 3 cm
No matter how edgy Horst P. Horst was for his time, this picture of American writer Gertrude Stein shows that he always had an eye for elegance.
Horst became friends with many people in the art community in Paris after moving there in 1930. That’s also when he started working for Vogue as a fashion photographer. Vogue called him photography’s alchemist for his ability to take graceful photos while experimenting with radical composition and other avant-garde techniques.
