Piet Sebens paints still lifes because he feels drawn to the calm and quiet side of art throughout the centuries and wants to express that in his own modern way.
At first glance, it’s the amazing photographic quality of the pumpkins and table that separates this painting from the older still lifes that inform this work. Sebens, however, is much more interested in colour. The complementary orange and blue in this painting help to achieve the intended effect. It’s almost like something out of a contemporary lifestyle magazine.
