Katwijk-Trees

2005 | Enduraflex print with plexiglas on Reynobond | 91 × 207 cm

Ellen Kooi uses photomontages of mainly Dutch landscapes and people in strange positions to create her own world.

Kooi got the idea of having people climb the trees in Katwijk and look in different directions when she discovered that the Romans had once settled in the area. "It made me think," says Kooi, "how the local inhabitants must have felt cut off from their familiar world by the new border."
