Passage 4

Within the Swetswana language, life experience is called "passage". Life as a voyage. The South African artist Mohau Modisakeng has taken this poetic conception as the subject of his series Passage.

Modisakeng reflects on the past with his artworks, especially the past of Africa and the apartheid era. In this way he wants to show that the influence of this violent era can still be felt. By using both African and Western relics in his work, he not only creates a critical dialogue, but also understanding and recognition.
