In her Atlantic Coast series, Samoylova traces the complexities of American identity through a contemporary lens. For this, she embarked on a photographic journey from Key West, Florida, to Fort Kent, Maine.
In this photograph we see an abandoned building of which solely the facade is left standing. Behind the dark windows, nothing is left standing. The run-down construction stands in stark contrast with the elegant, lively tree in the foreground.
