Nico Molenkamp was known in particular for his exciting use of colour. He’s sometimes labelled an expressionist because of it.
Nevertheless, Molenkamp’s work has, with a couple of abstract exceptions, always remained true to the realistic depiction of people and animals. Many of his works were inspired by his trips to Nigeria and Singapore.
